Les Bravades of Saint Tropez

Exploring Saint Tropez and its Les Bravades festival can prove rewarding in all its forms. Every year, through its history and customs, the town showcases the bravery of its inhabitants in the face of a string of outside attacks long ago.

The great Fête Patronale – Patronal Feast – takes place every May, and this year once more it will be held over three days: May 16, 17 and 18. The inhabitants of Saint Tropez dig out their muskets and rifles for the occasion, and the town is adorned in red and white in allusion to the corsairs of old. A procession is organised in the heart of Saint Tropez with the statue, and a “town captain” is elected – all more than enough to transport you to another century!

It is also the perfect opportunity to discover the alleyways of Saint Tropez that are so picturesque and steeped in history. They’re dominated not just by the Church of Notre Dame de l’Ascension but also by the citadel and museum. Make sure you take a walk along the heights with their panoramic views of the gulf in all its beauty. On a more humorous note, pay a visit to the Gendarmerie and Cinema Museum, where you can see Louis de Funès and his famous series of “Gendarmes à Saint Tropez” or the house that is home to 20,000 butterflies.

Dating back over 400 years, this old ancestral tradition celebrates the glorious military past of Saint Tropez, and you can discover it from your Résidence du Bailli.

Choosing one of the 19 perfectly-equipped apartments means you’ll have plenty of leisure time to plan this outing during your week’s stay and enjoy the best of the sea for the rest of the time. The beach is just 50 metres from your accommodation, and the weather will be ideal in May for making the most of the warm sunshine.
